Porto de Alegre Airport: works begin in January 2018

The Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, Moreira Franco, visited the facilities of the Salgado Filho International Airport today, in Porto Alegre. The project, which was qualified in the Investment Partnerships Program (PPI) at the 1st Meeting of the PPI Council, held on September 13, 2016, provides for the concession of the Airport and improvements are also envisaged, such as expanding aircraft yards, landing lanes and an increased number of boarding bridges. The expected investments are R$ 1.9 billion, with a generation of 1,500 direct jobs and 3,000 indirect jobs.

The public sale, which granted the management of the airport to the private initiative, took place on March 16, 2017, in São Paulo. The contract was signed in July. The winner was Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services, Germany, which offered R$ 382 million in granting to the Union. The minimum auction bid was 25% of the total grant value, which was R$ 31 million. The offer was R$ 290 million and represented a goodwill of 852% over the stipulated value for the minimum.

The Airport is located in the neighborhood of São João, north zone of the Municipality of Porto Alegre/RS. It is considered an important link in the transportation logistics of the South Region of the country. It is one of the main gateways to Mercosur for passengers and cargo, connecting with road accesses that lead to the BR116 and BR290/BR101 highways, which interconnect the north and south of the State of Rio Grande do Sul and countries neighboring Brazil.
